Chapeau de Paille - Bistrot Provençal Saint-Rémy-de-Provence Reviews from The Last Year
good but overpriced
We go out and have a good meal, very classic dishes but well cooked, however the bill is extremely salty in the true sense of the term 145 euros for two starters, main course, dessert, an aperitif and two glasses of wine, nothing extraordinary
Aioli not to be missed
The welcome is very friendly and the decoration original. As for the dishes, the aioli is really excellent. And the clafoutis is also tasty.
I recommend
Very good aioli, hearty and tasty, fair price, I saw a different comment, I don't share this opinion at all, it's the same for the rest of the group, I recommend
To avoid!
Honestly, it's not worth the trip! The aioli is starving: a few pieces of fish, a few skinny vegetables, you can't get more than two or three € on the plate.....and then again! Half a hard-boiled egg, half a carrot, a few twigs of "bean"(?), a small piece of turnip, that's not even a starter.... As for the clafoutis, very ordinary. The quarter of wine announced is reduced to an eighth, in short, the final price is totally disproportionate for the pleasure(??????) that we should have.... So, of course, everything is hidden behind a vocabulary snoring but one thing is certain, I will never return to this store where the customer is made fun of.
Provence on the plate.
An address already tested in this center of the city on the main artery, very well located. An interior room and an exterior glass terrace taken by storm. The decor is quite Provençal bistro, with its chairs of all colors, some of them folding. Culinary proposals are displayed on the sidewalk but you will also have them at the table. A cuisine oriented towards southern dishes like Aïoli. To highlight a fast service with pleasant exchanges with the chef and his wife who both officiate the service. In the kitchen a small, young and efficient team. Visual and gustatory pleasure as an aperitif with a wide choice of pastis accompanied by small tomatoes of all colors for lovers. It’s the beginning of Provence at the table. The choice of starter for a big eater, the homemade terrine of 250 gr (which represents a good portion), fennel seed and Espelette pepper accompanied by homemade pickles, rosemary basil. A massacre ! And this fresh country bread goes very well with the starter. The aioli is served in good quantity. Surprise the snails which are not all present according to the recipes. The leg of lamb, four beautiful thin pink slices with a very fragrant taste thanks to the sauce. A great success. The farigoule baba changes radically to delight the taste buds because it is very fragrant. The little extra if you haven't finished your plate, a small Tupperware will be offered to you. In conclusion, an address to discover or return to without complexes. Typical and friendly restaurant but with a very strong taste
Pleasant and typical restaurant, with several small rooms in addition to the main room In one of the rooms it looks like an old grocery store. Attentive and professional service. The menu only offers a few dishes but they are good and well presented. The ingredients are local and of good quality. The only downside for me is that the flavors are too strong, for example the aioli is too strong in garlic, the baba is heavily washed down with a local alcohol, very good otherwise, but it takes away all the taste, the fresh figs are excellent but the cream on the crumble covers everything else. In summary, restaurant to try but with dishes with very strong flavors
Promising but very disappointing
If you read my other comments on Trip Advisor, you will see that I always try to remain objective, factual and in good faith. It is in this spirit that I write this comment. We went to this restaurant to taste real Provençal cuisine. When we arrived, two nice slices of excellent bread and a nice bowl of small tomatoes, lightly salted and oiled, were waiting for us; they were excellent. The rest of the food was pretty ordinary. For example, the slices of lamb leg that I was served were lukewarm. Only the chocolate mousse for dessert was really good. But where this restaurant really disqualified itself in my eyes was when I ordered two glasses of champagne as an aperitif. Note: I have drunk champagne and other sparkling wine hundreds of times in my life; I am not completely ignorant in this matter. Moreover, here is how this champagne (B Gaucher Magelie Prestige) is described on a website: "A pretty pale gold color full of promise appears when served. The effervescence is very present and composed of fine bubbles, on the nose we find slightly caramelized and white chocolate notes." However, we were instead served two glasses of a sparkling drink like Coca-Cola and whose color resembled an unfiltered beer. The taste was terrible. I diplomatically pointed out to our waitress that this "champagne" had a very strange color - I then hoped that she would concede that it was a mistake on their part, that she would come back to me with real champagne straight away . Well no. She told me that this strange color was because this “champagne” was a brut. I didn't believe it. I'm not the type to make a fuss in public (I'm more the type to leave comments on the Internet). So I kept quiet and just left the cup of this fizzy drink aside, without drinking it. Strangely, I wasn't billed for it at the end... That was my experience at this promising and very disappointing restaurant.
Excellent
Excellent and plentiful cuisine. You immediately feel that these are fresh, homemade products. If you pass by, stop!
This time I was lucky!!!!!
This place is really cool!!! I ate lamb millet with thyme and potatoes that melted in your mouth! Plus I ate because I liked it, a whole head of garlic. Which may have been a thing of beauty, but it was really delicious, like a puree! As a starter, a very good gazpacio! With marjoram and sublime goat cheese 😃.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
