Cinquecento Pizzeria Portobello Rd London Reviews from The Last Year
Do not order a collection
Arrived and ordered a take out Told 15 minutes After 30 I was told another 10 Pizza was cold when it arrived 45 minutes after ordering
They used to be great but mostly basic pizza take away business
We used to love their pizzas! What has happened? We remember their restaurants being casual and cosy with this personal touch towards the customer giving impression of Italian hospitality ( Notting Hill branch is the best with service! Really wonderful staff !) . Kensington branch is particularly cute due to their prime location and nice garden in the square ..however, Currently they seem to focus on takeaway side of the business ignoring their customers ( they are busy packing never ending bags of Deliveroo drivers!) . Also these days their Pizzas are served with minimum topping ( delicious but really minimal ) - the recent experience ( two visits in two weeks ) seems to be miles away from what we had in past years. We have recently found another cute pizzerias in Kensington that offer way better food and service in a lovely location.
Friday lunch
Came for lunch whilst exploring Portobello and it was just okay. The building itself is very quirky, cool interior and decoration. I love the plates and glasses. Service was good, waiters were lovely and polite but the food was not the best. This is marketed as a pizzeria and we came for a pizza and it wasn’t a good pizza! We went for a basic buffalo mozzarella. We also opted for some brushcetta on the side. Bruschetta was nice, bread toasted just right, oregano tomatoes and very fresh. But the pizza? The base was heavily burnt so we sent it back and got another which was also burntish this time but the dough in parts in the crust was raw. You also could not pick up a slice, you want the dough thin and crispy not thin and wet. It was such a shame and im sorry but we likely wont be returning.
Amazing pizza
Cute little spot! Seriously amazingggg pizza - we were talking about best pizza ever and this one is definitely up there! The aperol zpritz also done perfectly. My daughter who doesn’t eat anything said pasta magnificent and chicken delish Cute little pic spots too!
Friday Dinner
We went to this place on a friend’s suggestion. Although, we were disappointed by the service and the food. The starters took way too long to be served (roughly half an hour). “Fritto misto” and “polpettine” were fine, but not great, probably the fritto misto was a bit heavy. Pizza seemed ok, but it revealed to be not well cooked, nor easy to digest. The location was welcoming, neither bad nor good though.
Way better than any pizzerias in London
Way better than other pizzerias. As an Italian and a restaurants expert in my view 500 is way better than any other pizza place in London. Having recently moved to Portobello, on Easter Sunday I went with six friends and family to the local 500 where on all counts I found the same quality of their Notting Hill Gate branch that was my favorite London Pizzeria when I lived there. This shows that the 500 pizzerias are consistent in products quality, service and atmosphere. I ordered a classic Margherita that was as good as any that I have had in Italy. Not in the least rubbery, chewy and extra thin or thick as most other London pizzerias serve, I’m afraid. It was just perfect. All the others were equally satisfied with their choice. One of us had a lasagna that according to him, who is a well know Italian chef, and unusual for a pizzeria, was as delicious as the one that he makes in his restaurant in Monza.. The place is small but cozy with a warm Italian country style interior that straightaway makes one feel at home. On entering we were welcomed in typical friendly Italian style by their likeable manageress who with her staff attended us admirably. For dessert I had a delicious panna cotta covered with raspberry coulis, while all the others were happy with their choice. For wine e had a Sauvignon Blanc plus a glass of red for one of one of us, and surprising for me they also serve a very tasty Sicilian orangeade that I didn’t know. Prices were adequate and affordable for a place located in one of the busiest touristic areas in London where rents are spiraling high. If I have to put a tiny criticism is that they didn’t have decaffeinated coffee that evening. This said their coffee was of the finest possible quality. I feel very lucky to have found this lovely pizzeria next to where I live. As, out of gratefulness, I always mention the names of the staff of the restaurants where I go who serve me well, I wish to thank the manageress Natasha, her assistant Federica and all the rest including the pizzaiolos who did their best to give to us a memorable pizza experience definitely worth repeating Full kudos to 500, a one hundred per cent genuine Italian Pizzerias. Piero LF.
Shockingly bad
I wouldn't normally post a negative review but our meal was sooooo bad I had to share. Food cold and terrible! Ragu pasta with no ragu, minute portion size and served cold! When we gently complained the bowl was taken away and returned, still with no sauce and tepid. The lasagna, was equally poor and served at room temperature. Our simple starter, bruschetta, was a small, hard piece of bread with a chopped tomato - no dressing, it resembled cardboard. We waited 30 minutes plus for our starter. I have visited here several times before and the food was fine. On this occasion it was super disappointing. Our waiter was lovely and when we justifiably complained he apologised. I asked to speak to the manager who wouldn't oblige. We received our bill with no concession for inedible food and slow service. In summary, anywhere can have an off night but when it isn't recognised by the management, it demonstrates a complete lack of pride in the establishment. There are other places to eat in NH, I would proceed with caution if you eat here.
Best Pizza in Town
Lovely evening at Cinquecento pizzeria! Friends night out and it was our first visit at Cinquecento Pizzeria, been recommended by a friend. absolutely stunning, friendly sraff , lovely atmosphere, pretty cosy place and the Pizza I got to say is the BEST IN TOWN. We had pizza Romagnola, Piccantissima, Vesuvio & a traditional Italian dish “Parmigiana” Thanks so much to all the staff for taking care of us, & thank you Francesco Pugliese who made our evening extra special See you very soon
Good pizza but uncomfortable and tiny place
The pizza is great but perhaps it would be better to order it. Tiny place, tiny tables, crowded, loud.
Disappointing pizza
I am really sorry to say that the pizza wasn’t how expected. We previously had the 500 pizza delivered from Chelsea area and we really enjoyed it. We went to the location in Notting Hill with the same expectation but it was a disaster. I am happy to pay money for good food but the pizza We had was definitely to expensive compared to the quality. The topping was lacking and the dough was really terrible. The dough was uncooked on top and burned in the bottom… definitely too thin in the middle. As there are better pizza places in the area I am sorry to say I won’t give this place a second chance.
Went in a hour before closing and they told us we could
Went in a hour before closing and they told us we could only get a choice from the pizza on display (pizza was sitting out for a while). These guys really seemed like they didn't want to be bothered as one was cleaning/working and the other was on the phone... Once you pick the slice (mine was the white pizza ham/artichoke), it was reheated and served. I ended up throwing it away and we went to McDonalds...
