Coastal Kitchen Monterey Reviews from The Last Year
we did the full gusto experience whatever it is called.
The upgraded upgrade. Extremely enjoyable experience. Food was excellent and paired very well. I enjoyed the view, the quiet, calm and romantic setting. I think it was a 7 or 9 course?. We were stuffed and rolled out of there happy as one could be. The wagu was better at Alexanders in Cupertino, this one did not melt like butter in our mouths, and we did pay wagu prices, and we have had wagu several times. Actually, mine was tough to chew. The rest was very good and I would come back. It is better than most but not close to Manresa, which sadly I think closed. However, for sure we will be back. Service was great. A screw up on the wagu is forgivable, this time. ;)
Amazing view and classy restaurant.
We sat right next to a window. They give you binoculars so you can look out into the Bay for otters or whatever else might be out there. Service and food were both excellent. We were given fresh fruit and pastries. Also, two pieces of bacon, two sausages, and two hash brown patties. All wonderful. We didn't finish our first course or all of the extras because we were trying to save our appetites for the second course. Our second course came and one of us had huevos rancheros and I had the short rib hash. By that time, we were so full. We asked to take everything we didn't finish home. Our server, who was very good otherwise, took everything away, saying he'd pack it to go for us. The only thing he packed were our first course, the smoked salmon flatbread. Everything else had been tossed! Of course we didn't notice we only received our first course to go until we got home. Such a disappointment, especially for the amount of money we paid.
We love chefs choice tasting menu experiences especially
We love chefs choice tasting menu experiences especially for special occasions. The food was really good not the best I've had . The price was 150pp and 95pp additional for wine pairing. The sever and Somali lacked personality which degraded the experience for me . The host was great the server was not rude but lacked social skills and was hard to understand the Somalia was ok but lacked any conversation skills and spoke so quietly you could barely hear her . This was a one and done for me and altho a good meal I'd choose a different option next time.
Amazing food.
Great atmosphere and customer service. I had non alcoholic drinks which were very tasty!
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but we ordered Salmon and
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but we ordered Salmon and The Lobster Tails along with appetizers and sides, we even asked the waitress questions about the Lobster tails and only happened to receive the Salmon. Would've loved a lemon with the Salmon as well but just so happened to not be checked on for 25 minutes. Never received the Lobster tails and after being checked on after 25min we let the waitress know that the Lobster never came out and she seemed somewhat apologetic but never offered anything in accommodations, didn't offer to have it to go, just a quick apology that didn't seem all that real. We expected to speak to the manager as anyone would in this scenario but he seemed to never get word of it or something because he was casually picking up candles in the whole process. Pretty unfortunate as we planned this dinner before we drove 7 hours to stay out here. We also were never even offered dessert. The Salmon was pretty good though, for what that's worth.
Hotel food masquerading at high end Californian.
Some of it works, some seems unpolished for the price. Mostly though, just comes across as Monterey tourist chic.
PRIX FIXE ADVENTURE BY THE WATER "A prix fixe menu?" I
PRIX FIXE ADVENTURE BY THE WATER "A prix fixe menu?" I said, wishing I'd starved myself to prepare for such a journey of a feast. Rachel responded with a pleasant smile. "The chef wants you to experience his creative spirit- from Amuse-bouche to the final dessert." It's rare to experience a taste so potent and fragrant that it needs to be reduced in size. "Three bites is just enough. A fourth would diminish the experience." I told Rachel as she glided past our table. "My thoughts exactly." She echoed. While her support staff laid down new silverware for the next course, we could hear the tables complimenting the food from every corner of the restaurant. The restaurant environment had a muted harmony that made you feel a sense of integrated privacy. The powerful wooden beams outlining the open layout absorbed the sharp noises while allowing the peripheral, soft clinking of forks and spoons to chime across your eardrums. Their focus on allowing each diner to experience the dish before them - without feeling alone, is executed flawlessly. This Michelin Guide-listed restaurant deserves at least one star. The artful decadency of its dishes and the kind professionalism of the service staff may need an intimate curvature within the dining room. One with the visual warmth of partitions and booths, mirroring the view of the coastal landscape and adding a seating arrangement that resembles the view of the Pacific Ocean while experiencing this season's current menu. This restaurant deserves to have its entrance - distinctly separated from anything else. Adding an 'A la carte' option would heighten the diner's experience into that exact dopaminergic alignment of creativity the chef feels - making the meal more profoundly and intricately involved. This is an experience I'd want to repeat when dessert and drinks are the only desires of a future night. It takes many years to accomplish exquisitely even one aspect of the dining experience. To systematically achieve the myriad of moving pieces is a work of art, passion, and dedication. Coastal Kitchen does a phenomenal job fulfilling its attempt to put each individual into this season's dining trance.
Outstanding hospitality and even better food
Wonderful hosts. It started with my wife arriving to the restaurant a few minutes before me - I was just closing out our spa bill a few floors above. They handed her binoculars to spot some sea otters in the bay until I arrived a few minutes later. The food was excellent with a ‘colorful’ blend of flavors. Wonderful oysters, abalone, duck, wagyu, and desert. Everything cooked to perfection with an excellent balance of flavors. We have eaten at some of the best places in San Francisco, Paris, Barcelona and we loved this place for its beautiful location and views right on the water, the excellent food, the unpretentious, knowledgeable, authentically friendly staff, and the wonderful wine recommendations. I can only recommend a visit for a date night, anniversary, or important business meeting.
Outstanding service from the minute you walk in, they
Outstanding service from the minute you walk in, they already remember it's your birthday! The staff is super friendly and attentive and every course changes out your silverware and makes sure you have a glass full of water. The food was delicious. Every course was the perfect amount. While it may look "small" each course all together really fills you up, especially because of how decadent each dish is. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was cozy romantic. While it was expensive, they were not an overly stuffy staff where you feel out of place if you're wearing jeans and a tshirt (which someone was wearing). Definitely will be back !
Coastal Kitchen is a true gem of Monterey
As soon as you enter this handsomely appointed stateroom and partake of the magnificent view of the bay, you realize you are in for a special evening. The warmth of the staff shines through immediately and the tasting menu and sommelier curated wine pairings, invite you to relax and put yourselves in the more-than-capable hands of Chef Michael Rotondo and the Coastal Kitchen team. If it’s the spectacular view that first grabs your attention, you’ll sit upright in your seat at the first taste of Chef Rotondo’s offerings. An amuse bouche of a delicately enhanced oyster, a cucumber and trout roe tart, and a playfully presented singular bit of fried calamari, awaken the senses and alerts you that you are indeed in for a splendid meal. Throughout the evening, the service staff and sommelier prove to be as knowledgeable as they are warm and friendly. Each glorious course is lovingly described; serving nicely to build the anticipation of that first delectable bite. Chef Rotondo’s deft touch with the local bounty is perhaps best showcased with melt-in-your-mouth black cod, but the showstopper is his bold presentation of wagyu as the final savory course; quite simply the best handling of this luxurious ingredient that I’ve ever had the pleasure to taste. I will return upon every visit to Monterey and envy the locals in the meantime. Bravo Chef! Bravo Coastal Kitchen!
Coastal Kitchen is a hidden gem, literally.
The place is incredibly hard to find. It's located inside the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa but there's no signage at all. Once you do find it (next to Schooners) you think you're going to Schooners because again, signage is terrible. However, highly recommend going. The 5 course tasting ($145) + wine pairing ($95) is amazing and a very good value. The views are amazing and the service incredible. Rachel and Sarah took great care of us and I was even able to swap out a beef course for scallops. Also highly recommend the wine pairing since it really elevates the already wonderful food. Will definitely be coming back!
My husband and I had had the Prix Fixe experience.
The food and the presentation of it were fine, but underwhelming. The service was great. The sommelier was wonderful, though the wine pairing could have been better. The cocktails were good. The ambiance was excellent for me. We sat next to a window viewing whales and other wildlife. This was my favorite part of the experience. The host station and finding the entrance to the restaurant was confusing. The host greeted patrons for 3 different restaurants I think. At first I thought I was way over dressed compared to the other people checking in before realizing this. For fine dining, I recommend Aubergine Carmel if you have not had it yet. It's always a wonderful experience.
High end dining with amazing views
To be clear, we LOVED this experience and definitely recommend. My reason for 4/5 is we were never shown a menu, and, at our table for 10, the descriptions of what was coming out to us on the plating was sometimes not easy to hear or very thorough. Also, all of the wine pairing was fun and the sommelier was amazing. She even was very helpful when we didn’t understand what was on our plates food wise. Having said that, I wish that they had used local wines. They were very proud of the fact that their food was all locally sourced, but unfortunately, every wine pairing was European. Just would’ve been a neater experience for our… (Probably most expensive ever)… Very expensive meal if the food and wine had been locally sourced. Lastly, our table for 10 had tastings from one bottle of wine or less each time so at $95 per person to add the wine pairing, this seemed exorbitant knowing the retail value on most of the wines. However, at the end of the day the food was excellent, the view is spectacular, and everybody we encountered was very friendly.
Where Elevated Dining and Hospitality Converge
This was our second visit to CK, and we can't wait to go back! Nestled within the Monterey Plaza Hotel, Coastal Kitchen is an oasis of charm, beauty, creativity, food exploration and gracious hospitality. Not only the stage for an exceptional gastronomic journey, but unlike our experiences at two local Michelin Star restaurants, the service and friendliness are professional, warm and authentic. The tasting menu unfolded with creative twists in each course. A few highlights: The Tomato Girl Soup impressed with its smooth texture and lively flavors. The Quail leg displayed a delicate balance of tastes. The Black Cod melted in your mouth, and the Australian Black Truffle Pasta was so savory you want to consciously savor each bite. The Wagyu beef was exceptionally tender, accompanied by a harmonious blend of flavors. Chef Michael and Sommelier Conrad delighted us with every course, each one a new culinary adventure. The small plates, thoughtfully paired with distinctive wines from different parts of the world, elevated the experience, as we watched otters playing in beautiful Monterey Bay from the panoramic dining room. As much as we loved the food, as stated above, the ambiance and service are at the same level, which is rare. The warmth and knowledge of the service team enhanced our experience, making us feel truly valued. We never felt rushed, and were having such a good time we didn't realize we were there three hours! It felt like we were on vacation, instead of locally dining out. In the realm of fine dining, Coastal Kitchen stands out to us for its excellence in cuisine, setting, and service. We look forward to returning soon!
Coastal Kitchen a MUST in Monterey
Loved our dinner at Coastal Kitchen in the Monterey Plaza + Spa. First of all you won't get a better view of the bay than from Coastal. The staff was all very attentive and the tasting menu was inventive and yummy. Loved all the wine pairings with each course too. I'm not a huge wine connoisseur and I LOVED all of the wine pairings. We've eaten at many of the Monterey Bay restaurants and I'd say that Coastal Kitchen is a must!
Dinner to remember
We enjoyed dinner and a wine pairing at Coastal Kitchen at the Monterey Plaza Hotel. it was 5 delicious courses with service that was world class. The chef and staff exceeded any expectation we had. I highly recommend this dining expierience.
Very disappointing
Very disappointing for a $145 tasting menu-only type of restaurant where once would expect everything to be at the highest level. The disappointments started upon arrival. We booked a window reservation in April for an August birthday dinner for 9, secured with my MasterCard. We got there to learn the reservation had been canceled; nobody knew why. Nobody had contacted us. Fortunately, they were able to pull a table together, but it was located in the back corner, with no direct window view, which is one of the primary reasons to dine here. There were multiple issues with the dishes: the edible cup that the cauliflower was in was soggy due to not being served quickly enough, the calamari was cold, the duck was cold, and the 48-hour short rib was really chewy. Some of us had sparkling water, some flat, and the server constantly got it mixed up so everyone eventually got a mixture of both. On a positive note, the oyster with beurre blanc was great and the cod was incredibly delicate.
Monterey Bay fine dining
Exquisite fine dining perched over Monterey Bay. Michelin quality tasting menu with expertly paired wines. Attentive service left nothing to be desired. Thank you Coastal Kitchen for a lovely date night. We can't wait to return.
1 and done
Oooh boy. This is good for 1 time and 1 time only. It's in the same location as where The Duck Club and then Schooners was, which is now just the same of the bar. The view is amazing, as always, but the decor is the same. The food is not any more spectacular than it was for either iteration before it, but you get charged alot more money than before for you 3 course meal plus possible drinks. We were and are very disappointed for what they did to this place. We will not come back.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
