This place is a Chicago tradition and it is Italian food at its very finest. I've eaten here many many times over the years and am stunned it's taken me so long to say something about them. It's reliably EXCELLENT. The menu is varied and there are always a few specials. I had the stuffed chicken breast last night and it was fantastic. I've had their pastas in the past and really they cannot be outdone in Chicago. The lentil soup was a wonderful start and the chocolate cake a must. It's worth mentioning that it's delightfully quiet so that you can talk to your guests. The loft space is so elegant and the dark blue velvet drapes and high ceilings add a lovely element of rustic sophistication. When you walk in you are transported back to Italy with a vegetable spread... I just love it. Great wine and cocktails list, service attentive, delicious bread to start the meal.. The owner Jack Weiss is always on site watching over things and talking to patrons to assure they are having the experience they deserve, and as usual he was there last night. If this place isn't on your list put it there.

They were able to accommodate a party of 10 on short notice on a Saturday night. Excellent food, attentive service! Will be back again for sure!

This is such a consistent restaurant with great service and a delicious menu. It also has tables spaced for conversations and not having to shout plus the curtains dampen the noise. Jennifer was a terrific server with good suggestions and attentiveness. Before the meal started they brought out stuzzichini as a started, small Italian finger food and delicious bread. I had the crudo to start which was terrific. I should have taken a picture. The pappardelle rabbit ragu was perfect. You don't see rabbit on many menus. Everyone enjoyed their meals, which I didn't track because mine was so good! It's a tough neighborhood to park and they have a very reasonable valet service.
Excellent food and excellent service.
Ambiance is perfect for an upscale Italian restaurant. There were 10 of us so we shared several dishes including the pizza and Caprese. Everything was delicious! Will definitely recommend!
This place was so delicious we went Thursday and Saturday.
Watching the chef direct his crew was like watching ballet. It was so cute when he was squeezing past a cook he threw him a kiss. That restaurant ran like a well oiled machine. The huge wood post with curtains draped through the restaurant was unique. Each table felt cozy. But really everything we ate was delicious and flavorful. We were only in Chicago for four nights and we ate there twice
To start off, the entree foods were solid.
I had the tagliatelle and it was pretty good. However, the service was not great. My waiter over poured my drink where it spilled on the tablecloth. The cocktails that my friends got were definitely sub-par. The ambiance in the restaurant was a little busy. Our waiter seemed like he was doing a lot of tables at once. Overall, a decent spot but they could use some improvement.
Food was excellent and was not overly priced.
Service was very friendly and attentive.
Dinner at Coco Pazzo is consistently a solid choice for
Dinner at Coco Pazzo is consistently a solid choice for excellent Italian Tuscan cooking and our favorite Italian spot in the city. The service is perfect-knowledgeable, professional and always attentive never annoying, management frequently surveys the room and ensures all is going smoothly. Sophisticated comfortable environment that is conversation friendly. Beautiful elevated open kitchen behind a sparkling bar. Raised built in wood burning oven adds to the ambiance and produces great food. Consider one of their excellent pizzas as a starter-we cant avoid doing this every time we come. Food and drink are a level above. This fantastic restaurant makes other spots with forgetable "tasting menus" and nothing but "sharing plates" seem foolish.
love this place! staff is great and the food is better.
it's an institution and if he haven't been here in a while you should check it back out.

Very disappointed! We asked the sommelier for a full bodied bottle of wine and got something that was a little darker than pink! My husband ordered the pasta with clams and got a bolognese sauce! I ordered the fish special which was striped bass. It was so fishy I could hardly eat it! All in all, very expensive and not worth it. One last detail, we waited for a long time just to be waited on. We were told at least three times, we will be right with you!
Great place
Business dinner, really great food, steak and fish, service very friendly had a really good evening and would definitely return

My medical school friends and I came here on one of the biggest days of our lives--residency match day! After a successful match, all of us were excited to have a nice dinner and spend the evening together. I booked this place for my friends and our guests on Friday for a total of 9 people at 8:30pm. We like Italian and it seemed to accommodate larger groups, so why not? We walked in right on time for our reservation. They said we'd be seated shortly. However, we had to wait 45 MINUTES for our table. We were told to congregate in the crowded area by the door that people used to enter/exit. I've never had to wait that long anywhere. We decided to approach them, and apparently it was because the party at our table would not leave. They seemed unapologetic about it and ignored us every time we asked. They could have made other arrangements or have us sit at the bar or something. When we were finally seated, they just gave us extra bread as an "apology". It was delicious bread, but I think they could've at least gotten us a bottle of wine or something for that long wait... The drinks were fine--nothing special. I ordered the rigatoni dish, and it was not good at all. The sauce was mediocre at best. The sausage tasted old, and I think I felt it the next day. It came out to almost $60 per person which was a complete ripoff. I'm disappointed that a very important evening did not go at all as planned. Will not be returning.
Service was wonderful, food was delicious.
The rustic atmosphere is reminiscent of a Tuscan trattoria. It's a little pricey, but very tasty!
The restaurant is celebrating its 30th year.
With my partner, a long time ago, had memorable meals at Coco on a number of occasions . Partner was otherwise engaged, so after the One-Of-A-Kind show, this time it was daughter and me giving it a go. How was it? Basically, it was all great: service, soup, appetizer, pizza, and pasta. The soup was lentil with prosciutto - small lentils mixed with bits of prosciutto - a slight added ingredient that delighted. The appetizer was a combination of several bean varieties; mixed with a light dressing - lively on what was a cold day. One test of a restaurant is their pizza. We went with Pizza Diavola which featured spicy sausage. Neapolitan in style, the sausage was perfect with its rich tomato sauce. Rigatoni alla Buttera featured fennel sausage. Another artful creation. All of this was perfectly timed by the waitstaff. One had the feeling they were determined to present an extraordinary enjoyable meal. And they did. PS - to start, a small compliment of an appetizer came - great too, nice gesture. And the bread along with breadsticks was, surprise, also great as well.
Coco Pazzo is a 4.
5 star for me - not because they have the very best food in town, (Its very good however), not because the décor is the most beautiful (it is however very nice. its a 4.5 because foe all the years I have been visiting Chicago for business, they have never, and I mean never missed when I have been entertaining. they also have round tables that can seat 8-10 people and the wine list is fantastic. I had a new hire group of 8 last evening and they of course delivered. See you in May for ASCO Coco. Love ya
Service is very attentive, but not overbearing.
Nice environment. Not crowded, but not totally empty on a Thursday when I went. Good selection of daily specials. Disappointed in the lamb shank, but I'd come back to try another dish.
Excellent!
Came with work colleagues. Dinner and dessert were fantastic. Wait staff exceptionally attentive. I’d highly recommend, delicious dessert.
Food was okay/ambience great/service disappointing.
I was recommended the risotto as the staff stated it was the best in the city. I wouldn't agree but wouldn't complain either. The chicken and gnocchi were the table favorites. There was plenty of good dishes on the table however I am rating down purely based on the service received. You could immediately tell the server was annoyed with questions about the menu. It seemed as we were a burden to his night any time we asked for anything. It could take up to ten minutes for him to return at times even though he as actively serving the table beside of us in a manner i could only wish my table was served. I will always give people grace to have a bad day but it was disappointing given I made reservations for my sisters birthday and all the guest had flown in to celebrate. The manager did wish us well on the way out and asked how everything was which was appreciated. We are not the type to complain especially when there is nothing to do to rectify the situation but do appreciate management checking-in.
It is always a consistently good experience, my friend & I
It is always a consistently good experience, my friend & I were able to stop in on short notice - the risotto of the day and carpaccio was excellent.
Melgrano cocktail, pastas, fritto misto and chicken ripieno
Melgrano cocktail, pastas, fritto misto and chicken ripieno are must try's. Awesome space and a long standing Chicago classic!
Perfect Pasta!
We four had a delightful two hour dinner recently catching up on conversation and enjoying a culinary feast! Fantastic wine list and remarkable menu gave us a wide range of choices. The roasted vegetables and grilled octopus were great starters and the pasta and fish courses we choose were delicious. Ending with a lemon tart and cappuccinos...well it was a perfect evening!
Great food poor service.
Was expecting more from this place, unfortunately did not hold up to expectation. Started off strong, we got seated at our reservation time, got waters and our drink order taken. After it started going downhill. Our server forgot about us so I had to grab a passing sever to place our main course order and again for a round of drinks. The food was awesome, we started with the octopus, and calamari. We got the branzino, eggplant arrabbiata, and Formaggi di Capra pizza. No complaints with any of it. However during our meal the table was out of water and I had to grab a server again. After everything we were just sitting there for dessert and the table to be cleared. After about 15 mins someone noticed came and cleared the table, at this point our original server returned and asked if we would like dessert or anything else. We got the chocolate flourless cake and some espresso martinis, both were great! At the end after we got the check I put my card up and nothing happened for about 20 mins so one person from our party decided to go to the bar to pay. At which point a third, different server, came to run the card at the table. Overall 1/10 for service a 8/10 for food averages out to be about 9/10 or 2.5 out of 5.
Wow so disappointed.
.was looking forward to a great meal..ordered the eggplant parm..it came stacked 3 high. Small potion. No pasta..ice cold center..yes I did said to the wait staff. She took it away..manager came over,we will make a new one... well my original one came back microwaved..so now all the skin on the eggplant is like tuff rubber...well no thank you 28.00 for a Small portion....with No ...gelato serving was a golf ball for like 10.00. Nope not worth it!
Decent food, attentive but uneven service.
A bit stuffy and not worth the money. The dining room was chaotic and too loud/busy for an enjoyable date night.
Great service, great ambiance and really good food.
We had four in our group and we started with a wood fired oven pizza for the table. We went with the spicy pepperoni and it did no disappoint. You can't go wrong with there pizzas as an app. I always get it a little well done. The pasta of the day was Casio e Pepe. We got an order for the table to share and it was fantastic. It's hard to believe that a dish so simple could tastes so good. I went a different route and ordered the NY strip with the Tuscan fries it was incredible. The rest of the table got pasta in a ragú gravy and the halibut. The only little bit of a let down was the spicy seafood dish my brother got. It was a combination of mussels, clams, shrimp and I think halibut in a red spicy sauce with pasta. I would definitely recommend the place , ample parking if your driving.
My boyfriend and I love Coco Pazzo.
The ambiance is super relaxing and romantic. I typically am not one for Italian, but this place makes me crave it regularly. My boyfriend really enjoyed his cocktails and my dessert was delicious. The portion sizes for our entrees were generous enough for me to take leftovers home. Service was friendly and attentive. We will be back.

We've been here twice and both times it's been very satisfying and delicious food. This time we ordered the fiorentina which is a 40oz porterhouse, phenomenal!
This place I loved! The gnocchi was pillow soft.
The bread is great. The Gorgonzola mushroom pizza was solid. Great atmosphere and good service.
Fantastic dish.
Just fantastic. It was the squid ink pasta. Service and ambience was also delightful. Great restaurant. But only downside is that my cousin and sister got half portions of dishes and my dad and I's full versions were the same size of the same dish. Very puzzling. So, awful bang for you buck, as I left hungry for sure, but very tasty food. Just wish there was way more of it. Half portion = full portion
I truly could not recommend a more perfect place for a meal.
We had reservations for 8 of us and they had everything ready when we arrived. The chef sent out a sample plate to our table and it was delicious. We ordered calamari and the antipasti misti and it was enough for all of us to share. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and one of my friends ordered the wild boar Ragu. The ragu was so good, but wow, the ravioli was amazing. If it had not been a work dinner, I may have licked my plate clean. The service could not have been better. The atmosphere was great. I cannot wait to visit again!
One of my favorite Italian spots in River North.
It's classy Italian. During the summer, there is great outdoor dining on the sidewalk. Winter it's cozy inside. The staff is always attentive and the food is beyond delicious. This is a must visit!

Note: I came here for Thanksgiving dinner, so my experience might not be the norm.Instead of getting the Thanksgiving course, my sister and I ordered a la carte from their usual menu. We started with Polpo Arrosto (wood-roasted octopus) and Barbabietole (beet salad); overall, these appetizers tasted fine, but we were shocked by how small the Barbabietole was. $14 for six small pieces of beet and a sprinkle of greens? That's a no from me. For our main course, we shared two pastas: the Spaghetti Alle Vongole wasn't memorable, but the Pappardelle al Cinghiale was phenomenal. This was my first time having wild boar meat, and I loved the way they balanced its natural sweetness with warm spices. If you don't know what to get, trust me and order the Pappardelle al Cinghiale. All in all, the food and service were decent but disappointing considering the price. Will I be returning? Probably not. But on the off chance you do see me here again, know that I only came for the Pappardelle al Cinghiale!
Best Italian Place
Went to several Italian Restaurants in Chicago and this was by far the best! Ambience and food was outstanding. Service was also superb. All in all great place to go. Will definitely go again
Delicious!
We enjoyed our visit to this Italian restaurant immensely. We were pleasantly greeted and seated immediately (definitely recommend reservations). Our server seemed busy, but was polite and provided needed information. However, we very much appreciated the friendly staff attending to our table, making sure our drinks were refreshed, and keeping our table clear. What we enjoyed most was the handmade tagliatelle with bolognese. It was perfectly cooked, savory, and seasoned perfectly. Highly recommend!

Coco Pazzo offered a large open dining room that was welcoming and friendly. The branzino paired well with the wine that night and the pasta dishes were delicious. The service was prompt and overall we enjoyed ourselves on our first visit.
Never disappoints!
A wonderful evening out with my 92 year old mom. John, our waiter was attentive, patient and provided good advice. Polpo and grilled vegetables to start. Spaghetti con vongole and the special veal-stuffed cappelletti for entrees..nicely portioned.. With suggested wine to complement our food. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening for Mom and me.
