We got to Kiki’s early on Saturday night, but since our entire party was not there, we could not be seated since they do not take reservations. (My husband had actually checked earlier in the day and they had told him they don’t take reservations, but early seating for 6 on a Sunday night would not be an issue.) The hostess told us that if the 2 tables in the front were still empty once all have arrived, we would be seated at one of the tables. Our party arrived a few minutes later and the tables were still empty. We then went to the front to be seated. A different hostess appeared who told us that we cannot sit at either tables because they are both reserved. “Why?, we asked. “They are reserved every week and the parties are on their way.” When the other hostess came to see what the issue was, she rudely told her that she is handling this. The hostess then told us she will seat us in another building. We asked what the difference was and there was no comment. We decided to still stay and try the restaurant because we did not want to start looking for an alternative at that point. From the hostess, there was no apology, no effort at customer service — just passive aggressive smiles. Across the street we were seated at a bar table with a big pole in the middle so that we couldn’t clearly see one other, which was uncomfortable. While the food was very good, there was no heat in this area at all and we were encouraged to deal with it when we asked if there is any heat. By the time we finished the meal, we were frozen. We only realized how cold we were after stopping at a wine bar down the street that actually had heat! The only consolation was that there were other employees who were friendly and attentive. We actually later learned from several employees of the restaurant that the hostess is a very, very difficult character (I’m being nice) and they do their best to avoid her. It’s unfortunate that a restaurant of this caliber employs a staff member who has such a disdainful attitude, rude persona, and gives the restaurant a bad name. When you look through reviews, there are several that mention rude employees. I would guess we know who they are talking about.
