To flee
Magnificent terrace with a view overlooking the valley that is simply sublime. The kitchen is a poorly executed 90s relic. How can you combine a beef Wellington with a béarnaise sauce and all these accompaniments on the same plate: a head of plain steamed broccoli, 2 shredded asparagus, a potato gratin resembling an industrial tortilla all on a bed of mashed potatoes? carrot and the highlight of the show: a stuffed mushroom??? Who these days still dares to serve a stuffed mushroom?? I’ll let you imagine the mushroom béarnaise and carrot puree mixture on the plate: it’ll make your stomach turn. .. Dessert no flavor, everything is saturated with sugar.. Copious and coarse dishes, no seasoning, accompaniments that do not go with the dish and a bill of 170€ for 2. In short, run away!
Quel Surprise!
We returned today to claim our free meal under the “Tables Gourmandes” scheme. We assumed that we would simply be offered the standard lunchtime menu but were surprised to find that we would be enjoying a fabulous 5 course taster menu and taking home a bottle of Heidsieck champagne. We started with a little plate of hors d’œuvres which was followed by an “amuse bouche” - a very tasty langoustine bisque. We were given two different starters which we chose to share - home made Foix Gras with a rhubarb and ginger jam and scallops on a bed of spiced fennel with caviar. The mains were a beautiful piece of fillet steak with all the trimmings and monkfish in pancetta on a bed of spicy vegetables. Ideal his and hers food (in that order!). A cheese board followed which comprised 4 different local cheeses but which was accompanied by an intriguing dish of ice cream with potato mousse. This was incredibly light and airy, very sweet and with a sprinkling of tasty biscuit crumbs. Two desserts were next to arrive - a gorgeous and mercifully light coffee flavoured parfait with a biscuit base and chantilly cream and an equally light slice of “cake” featuring a pistachio sponge supporting a layer of lemon curd with a marscapone cream. The whole experience was rounded off with a very nice cup of espresso. We were treated like loyalty despite the fact that we were only paying for the drinks we ordered. We liked this restaurant before (which is why we decided to go back for our free treat) but we absolutely love it now!
Disappointing
We have been going there for years, and today we are very disappointed. We reserved in the morning to have a table at 12:30 p.m. under the veranda with a view, the person told us yes without a problem, but when we arrived, we were told that there was no deposit and that it was first come first. served. So we find ourselves in a dark room below out of sight!. We are given a menu of the day without asking our opinion... we ask for the gourmet menus, and the cocktails which are served to us in ordinary glasses... and we notice that we are the last served. No one came to ask us if we needed anything. ..at 57 euros the menu there were 4 of us. I'm really disappointed I left more than 500 euros this month (in two installments) I won't come back.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is calm and pleasant, and the dishes are delicious. The products are quality. The menu and prices are available on the establishment's website, which allows you to make your choice in advance. Impeccable service: discreet, professional and warm. In short, you can go there with your eyes closed! We will come back this summer to enjoy the beautiful terrace and the view that goes with it!
Not gastronomic at all
It's not a gastro, it's more of a brasserie, the prices are on point, no taste to avoid because it's just a scam... the desserts are not homemade... the disgusting lamb shank... The artichoke salad too salty… and King crab shameful presentation.. A RESTAURANT TO AVOID AND

Lunch in September 2023
Unappetizing and poorly cooked dishes. This is the third time we have had lunch in this restaurant: the first time, years ago, it was perfect, the second time we had the impression of being "in the way", the third time, it was really little appetizing. We won't come back again. Unfortunately there are too few restaurants open on Sunday lunchtime in Angoulême and the surrounding area. Too bad, we will find elsewhere. On the other hand, very expensive for such a meal!
