La Tupina Bordeaux Reviews from The Last Year
Traditional
Heavily hyped restaurant and thus not the cheapest but still capable of producing a lovely evening of traditional Gascon food and ambience. Excellent wine list and we both went for the Poulet de Vertessec and duck fat chips which was certainly memorable with a Fronsac , Chateau Dauphine 2015, being a decent accompaniment and one of the more reasonably priced wines - we booked for the following week which demonstrates our liking for the food, wine ambience and service.
Overpriced and Underwhelming.
I am a huge fan of Rick Stein and was so excited to go here. The staff were kind and the atmosphere great. However, the food was very underwhelming. Especially with the exorbitant prices. The Duck Breast was extremely sinewy / chewy, making it unenjoyable. I wish I could speak good things about this place but I am really disappointed.
Big disappointment
I had been looking forward to the famous chicken, but alas! It was lukewarm with cold sauce and tasted of nothing - not right at all! The staff seemed very stressed and we had to argue with them so we could get a clean glass for the red wine. They didn't care if we were satisfied or if we were missing something. PRACTICE!
Book in advance, great restaurant
We’ve been here every time we go to Bordeaux. Book in advance so you don’t miss out. Service, waiters are so friendly. The heat from the rotie when you walk is so inviting. The cuts of meat go straight onto the fire. Brilliant atmosphere
Over hyped average quality over priced food
My rule is never go to a restaurant with less than a 4.5 Tripadvisor rating - I broke that rule and regret it ! This was medium quality food in an over hyped restaurant Starter of duck carpaccio was very nice - mains were poor - the black pork is a large pork chop essentially- the steak was quite fatty Desserts were average Overall very disappointing but… I should have known - Tripadvisor is seldom wrong
Great experience
Amazing experience… saw the Rick stein Bordeaux program and just had to go! It was a great meal , service was so friendly and the atmosphere was great! Food and wine fantastic…Highly recommend!!!
Friendly Service, Rustic Restaurant
Had seen the Rick Stein review, so wanted to check it out for lunch. We sat outside, however it is on a busy side road, so book in advance, if you would like a better spot. We shared the seafood entree which was excellent, and my husband had the duck which was good. I think the chips are a little over rated, and the portions are small. We really enjoyed the service and the meal, however service can be slow, so best to relax into the experience. In terms of value for money, it is a little expensive verses the quality of the food, but a great experience with a lot of history behind the restaurant. Worth having a look at the photos inside the restaurant.
Disappointed, frustrated.
Undercooked asparagus (30 euros). cassoulet reheated in its pan and much too dry. (at 35 euros per person) Inexcusable at these prices. The 2022 wine recommended by the producer to only be drunk after three years, served without discomfort. Too bad, we had a blast with this evening.
Very disappointed
Very disappointed. Faults in taste: We had champagne as an aperitif, the appetizer was inappropriate: a piece of country pâté with pickles and radishes. The starter is foie gras terrine accompanied by a piece of toast. The dish, a good beef chateaubriand with a side of fries, lacks vegetables. Lack of class: To round it all off, we asked for the extra cost for a change of desert in the menu: 1 euro per person. I find this a bit petty for a 70 euro menu!!!!
Bordeaux at its best
A fantastic evening with authentic food and great service. Delighted with traditional dishes of very high quality.
Great for eating meat
A purely meat restaurant, upon entering you can feel the atmosphere of an old tavern with an access path where the meat is cooked. We ate very well, very good meat and friendly service. It's not cheap. A main course ranges from 35-50 euros. Tables a little close together. The restaurant is not in a very touristy area, actually ugly but it's worth it
Stunning Old School Wonderment
Hit Bordeaux for the St. Patrick weekend. This place had been on my radar for sometime and when you enter it exudes old world charm and history gone by. It's like going to eat in someone's front room, you feel welcome and warm. Great wine list, we had a cracking bottle of Chateau Phélan Ségur 2014. I think this would go with anything it was just beautiful. Baby squid for starters or squid elvers as they say were so soft and juicy. I then had the classic, Cassoulet. Cooked to perfection so creamy and meat was lovely and tender. Mate had a steak and it looked great. Meal of the weekend hands down while in Bordeaux.
Nice French Restaurant with Great Service
lovely French restaurant with excellent service and very nice waiting staff. I had a gorgeous cream of asparagus soup to start. My main course was duck which was a bit rare in parts for my taste and I had ordered medium but it was a good sized portion and I had plenty. The duck fat chips are tasty but a bit oily. The gravy sauce with the meal was lovely. Others had the cod which looked lovely while the pork was deemed very fatty. The deserts were lovely I had a lovely lemon sorbet, others the ice cream in coffee and crème brule. Overall it was a lovely experience.
Superb meal and great experience
I felt a bit duty bound to write this review as I feel like this particular restaurant isn’t quite as well served on Tripadvisor as it deserves to be and having read some reviews pre to us booking and going I was a bit apprehensive. However, in short, it was amazing. I’d recommend booking a little later than we did which was a 7.00 as I think the French tend to eat a little later than us. So if you want a more packed restaurant definitely go more for the 8.00pm slot. We found it packed out by our main course. It’s everything that we thought it could be with the little wood burner on the go where they do the cote de boeuf and more importantly the duck fat chips which are delicious. I had foie gras to start and my girlfriend has beetroot and both were delicious. So were our mains on duck breast and chateaubriand with a sharing portion of duck fat chips. She had crème brûlée for dessert and I had the lemon meringue pie. Great service too. Very friendly and we had a moderately priced graves wine which was lovely. Highly recommend. Our best meal in Bordeaux (which is great for food).
Traditional food exceptionally executed
Very traditional bistro food exceptionally executed. The staff were excellent, attentive but not rushed. The desserts are wonderful, and my husband believes the creme brulee was the best he has had Well worth a visit.
Fantastic meat
Wonderful meat, very local, only local, Thomáz the waiter was super friendly and attentive, good wines, not cheap, but it was worth it.
If I could give them higher than a 5 - I would!! AMAZING
If I could give them higher than a 5 - I would!! AMAZING experience. First, we showed up shortly before they took their last seating for lunch...and they were kind and gracious. Asked us if we could order soon - which we gladly did. The wine, the chicken and foie gras, the bread, the service - exceptional. And the ambiance - we couldn't have asked for a more special location/food/people for our last meal in Bordeaux. Highly recommend!
