Luna Grand Rapids Reviews from The Last Year

The Golden Rule of tacos in Grand Rapids is below: Pick two (and only two): Great Tacos Great Price Great Ambiance In my experience, Luna has come the closest to breaking this rule and achieving all three of these taco tenets. Delicious and surprisingly authentic tacos? Check. Gorgeous downtown atmosphere? Check. Fair prices? Not amazing, but for being downtown, it seems fair. If you want great tacos and a great evening, Luna is your spot. Everything is great, but their tortilla chips are an absolute MUST.

Food is low - mediocre quality, priced too high for what it is. Service is alright. I recently made an online order and they've added a $5 fee to order online (who does that?) I wouldn't recommend this establishment, there is much better quality for price downtown.

This place was so good! We had elote dip for starters and then tacos and everything was so good! We went on a Friday evening and it was packed and a little noisy so just a heads up. But the food and margaritas were amazing! The service was quick and nice which we appreciated. Highly recommend

Love the food, service is always pleasant, mixes drinks are really good. I like to visit this restaurant often. I have been here with a group and we were well taken care. Check it out

Can't believe I have not been here sooner! This place had a great atmosphere, friendly staff / service, and amazing food! Chips were homemade and totally worth it! The prickly pear margarita was fantastic. Will definitely be coming back to explore more of the menu. Great spot for dinner or drinks.
Food is decent.
I especially like their salsa (the orange one is amazing). Be aware that they charge a 15% "restaurant fee" on all take out orders and suggest an additional 5% tip. In other words, you will be expected to tip 20% on takeout orders, even though there really is no service or dining experience.... Doesn't make a lot of sense.
Tasty food, mediocre service
Quesadilla was very tasty. Chips and salsa were pretty good. Service was a bit slow. Would recommend getting a reservation ahead of time.
Great place to go downtown for dinner.
Love the tequila and mezcal selection. The NY strip fajitas are the best!
Had a reservation with friends.
Wasn't too busy. The night was great until we were told our 2 hrs were up. After asking the manager about the other empty tables he said "oh you can stay" after we packed up, paid and my friends were outside. Rude to say the least.

Menu was hard to read on phone and no paper menus were available. Menu isn't overly large - mostly tacos, quesadillas, a few entrees and some apps like chips & queso - but it was all very tasty. The chips are perfectly crunchy and stable for dipping. They do have a larger selection of tequilas and offer a very plentiful margarita flight. The spicy and prickly pear were my favorite. One of the people I was with did run into the issue that each drink he wanted was somehow out of. Additionally, we had a reservation. We asked for a final drink and were told our reservation closed for the next party and we had to leave. We were not aware there was any party after us (a party of 8) so abruptly. This caused us to take business elsewhere (despite room at the bar and restaurant in general). The sudden abruptness was rather WTF-ish because there was no caution from our waitress that we needed to wrap up. It would have been nice to know.
Went out for drinks and tacos to celebrate with friends.
We all got margaritas and oh man, delicious and dangerous. Their chips are also super addictive. Got the shrimp and fish tacos which both hit the spot. Our waiter was lovely and the whole vibe of this place was wonderful. Can't wait to go back.
Three stars and a fairly mixed review.
.. My husband and I stopped in for a margarita flight and some taquitos on a Friday mid-afternoon several weeks ago. The margaritas were terrific. The prickly pear margarita was our favorite. The taquitos were warm and delicious. We recently went back for dinner having enjoyed what we had that afternoon. The service at dinner was very slow. We ordered our drinks and got them in a timely manner. The margaritas did not disappoint on the second try. We then ordered the chips and salsa flight adding guacamole, pico de gallo, and queso dips as well. The mild salsa tasted like plain tomato sauce. The others were very good. The guacamole was creamy and the pico de gallo had just the right amount of spice. The chips were very disappointing. They came in a pile which was composed of mostly little broken chip bits and they were very oily. I'm not sure there was any salt on the chips at all. We were pretty much finished munching on the chips and salsas and our waitress had not stopped back to allow us to order our meals. Finally after another 10-15 minutes of waiting she came back to get out dinner orders. It was very frustrating as we could see her in the back just hanging out but couldn't seem to get her attention. The other servers seemed to be back to their tables much more frequently. My daughter and I both had the tacos which were very good. Between the two of us we tried the carne asada, chicken, and Al pastor tacos. My husband enjoyed the camarones al ajo. Overall the food was good with the exception of the oily, cold, unsalted chips. I think we would go back for the margaritas and possibly the tacos. I'm not sure we will make it a place we return to over and over. My only other concern was that it was so loud it was hard to carry on a conversation. I would recommend off times for better service and a little quieter atmosphere.
Update to my previous review from 3 years ago.
Their is food is just terrible. Service was okay but honestly it was not a place I ever plan to go back and revisit. The homemade tortilla chips were cold and oily, the salsa was still not that great and it was overpriced for what you get. I tried something new this time, their California burrito. It had the cheapest quality of ingredients. It was difficult to eat. It seems like somehow their food and quality went down since my last review. Which is a shame. I really wanted to give it a second chance and like it. One star because I would never pay for food like that and I will never go back.
