McMenamins Edgefield Troutdale Reviews from The Last Year
O McMenamin's, you continue to impress yet disappoint me,
O McMenamin's, you continue to impress yet disappoint me, confound and bedazzle me. My latest trip to the sprawling Edgefield compound was not for a concert this time, but for a couple day trip to relax in the Columbia River Gorge. It's a great base camp for adventures into the Gorge and so yes, I stayed over in the hotel portion (part of the main lodge building) for the first time ever - but I'll get to that shortly. First let's tackle the Black Rabbit restaurant or rather the bar area of said restaurant where I had breakfast one morning. It's also in the main building and as with all McMenamin's properties, the ambiance here is a total delight, with rustic old architecture paired to interesting, highly creative artwork....I felt like I could sit here for hours. The service, I gotta say, on my visit was 5 stars exceptional: I was left wanting for nothing, even though the staff was clearly slammed on a Friday. True pros, through and through, from the drink orders to the check ins to the serving, it was all spot on. The food, on the other hand, not so much; I had your basic 3 egg scramble with toast and sausage, and the eggs --sad to say -- were hard and flavorless, and the toast, like cardboard. Def not worth the $19, but I tipped well because the service was just so friggin good. And the hotel part? Again, charming artwork in old rustic rooms, but as a place to sleep, it just sucks. The rooms, though fairly decently sized, aren't at all soundproof so you hear everything that happens outside your door and window at all hours, and the bathrooms are communal shared affairs where you have to walk down the hall with a key card every time. Even at 3am. No thanks - especially for the price they charge. That said, the grounds here are delightful and the Rubys soaking pool in the building down the path is super cool. Just temper your expectations, pick your experiences (I.e. stay in a different hotel) and you'll have a good time.
Good pub food.
Wide variety of drinks beer, wine and cocktails Lots of great places to sit outside, on the porches or in little lounge areas. Also many small bars on the property. Walking the grounds drink in hand or sitting outside with one is allowed.

Almost always packed unless you stop in during the week or off peak hours. Always something going on, beautiful place inside and out. Beverages never disappoint but the food is so so (like any McMenamins in my opinion). I frequent this spot time to time and will be going back, just wish the food was better.
The bartender literally bent down and eyeballed my bourbon
The bartender literally bent down and eyeballed my bourbon into a shot glass before pouring it into my glass. It was comical to watch. I cannot tell you how dumb that made this man look. You'd think McMenamins hires directly from OLCC. Great for ambience, but the food is just okay for the price, and it is simply not possible to face-palm hard enough in regards to the drink pours. It makes them look schiesty and suuuper greedy. NEVER see a concert here. You'll have to sit on a bath towel. We were told a standard beach towel was too big. And the amphitheater was frickin' way too CROWDED. Again: greed, greed, greed, greed. A cozy looking middle-finger of a place.

The service is usually spot on with attentive enthusiastic servers. Their talking 'up' the entree is usually how I select a new favorite. Tried and true BLTA is my preferred go to...with caj'on 'Tot's.'
Good food and fun environment.
I enjoyed my time at McMenamins Edgefield. There is a lot of fun activities there.
How the mighty have fallen.
So sad, we've been staying here for decades and all the little touches that made Edgefield really special are gone. The food in every venue is great but 25% over the going rate at comparable locations. The front end staff are not interested in you or your stay. If you need something the answer is usually "no". All of the cool discount packages are gone and the price is the price. Room prices are up significantly and remember, the toilet is down the hall. The bright spot for my wife and me was the Ruby pool (salt water!), it was hot, fun and a short walk from our room. In conclusion, this will be our last stay. We wanted to share with the front desk but they just said "we'll text you the total" and turned away from us. Couldn't be bothered. No problem, our money will spend just fine somewhere else. Sad though, at least one of our kids was actually conceived at this place.
I love this place; atmosphere, drink, food, etc.
. However, today's happy hour in the Powerhouse Pub left something to be desired. Service was lackluster and food was cold. Tater tots are not good when they're cold. I was visiting with a friend, but two hours to get my check is a little long. Food and drink prices are so high and expect good food and good service. Will think twice before I go back.
Overall, a good experience and I would go again
I went mid-week in mid-March for 4 days/3 nights with my wife and two other couples who are longtime friends. We lucked out on weather, as it was sunny and warm for nearly the entire time. Pros: The paintings, murals, sculpture, antique light fixtures furniture, and other artwork are incredible and indescribable. It sort of channels Hogwart's, Windsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland and a Dead show in the best possible way. There are an unbelievable number of restaurants and bars from the large to the tiny everywhere you go and walking around with your food and/or drink is fine. The food and drink is overall quite good. More on this later. The staff seem happy to be there and service is great. The other patrons at the hotel are friendly and sociable: it's easy to strike up conversations and there are plenty of places on the decks, in the halls and on the grounds that enhance this. There are a multitude of on-site things to do including putting green, golf course, tours of their distillery, winery and brewery (whose products are top-notch and not exorbitantly priced in the bars or gift shop), spa and warmed salt-water pool, pool hall with billiards, darts and shuffleboard. They make their own ice cream on the grounds, which is excellent. Sorry, no tour ; ) The on-site movie theater is great! Big screen, decent sound quality, real theater seats and you can bring in or order in food from the adjacent pub. At $10/ticket, seeing Dune 2 there was a heck of a deal (though the popcorn was quite salty). Cons: The mattresses are in real need of replacement. Ours and another couple's were pretty worn and sunken in. Not all the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms. To be fair, this building is a historic landmark and they are very clear about this on their website. That being said, the shower stall was pretty worn and stained and clearly not receiving the tender loving care as the artwork and would benefit of it. The food was generally well-prepared and tasty, though the menu was very reliant on fried foods. In my opinion, entrees would have been improved upon by being accompanied with a small serving of steamed vegetable, green salad or fruit. These are available as sides, but the overall cost of meals gets pretty pricey. Oddly, the pub's fish and chips was disappointing. The fish was flaky, but the batter was thin and unappealing. Bakery is a weakness; pizza dough was thin, not leoparded top or bottom and lacking in bubbling in the crumb. The English muffins are round pieces of some sort of bread, but are not true English muffins. If you order drinks, pay close attention to behind the bar and do not expect to go outside the bartender's wheel house. The well equipped bar at the Black Rabbit restaurant can make respectable Sazeracs, Last Words and Old Fashioneds. On the other hand, the distillery bar focuses on spirits and the bar tender really is no hand at a shaken cocktail. It takes some doing to trash a martini. Would I go there again? Yes. Would love to catch one of their outdoor summer concerts, but the rooms for the night of the performances are already booked to September. They've gotten some famous talent ranging from CSNY to Lizzo. Would I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely, though with the provisos as above. None of my party is vegetarian, gluten-free or vegan but I would encourage any of my friends with those dietary preferences to examine the various menus quite closely.
Food & service is low quality.
Not just one location, but every location I have visited.
We have never had a bad meal at any of the McMenamins.
Food and service impeccable. At holidays or just stopping in for a burger, always perfect. Last Valentine's Day.... They missed 2 orders completely, but really made up for it.
McMenamins Edgefield has everything you need all in one
McMenamins Edgefield has everything you need all in one place. From a wine bar, to brewery, to a swimming pool, and meeting halls. The swimming pool is heat by a boiler, so even if the power goes out, you can still use it; since, the water will remain warm. In addition, they have a cool gift shop where you can pick up one of their wines and a T-shirt. the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Most rooms don't have a bathroom, so you have to use one of the many community bathrooms. This is something I don't like, but I will overlook; since, they are very clean and kept up. The nice thing about this place is like you are on a treasure hunt. There are so many neat wall paintings that you can spend have a day just looking at them.
Smile and enjoy yourself.
This was my second trip to the Edgefield and it did not disappoint. The building evokes a feeling of nostalgia for a time gone by. Cozy nooks for reading or visiting, great little “pubs” for a libation, a fun gift shop, and excellent restaurants. We were a group of 3 couples, and sharing “room tours” was a highlight. Watch for surprises hidden in the fabulous artwork. The grounds are gorgeous and a soak in the hot pool is a must. I appreciated the lack of TV’s in the rooms.
Horrible Experience
The bartender at the golf course is horrible. We waited for 10 minutes in line to check in for our tee time. When we finally got to the front of the line, she said we were too late and could not play golf. We would have made it had she not been so slow (which caused the long line). We drove all the way there just to play golf. Thanks for ruining our birthday outing.
Not disabled friendly
I was under the impression this facility would be handicap accessible. I am disabled and my back sometimes locks up if I walk too much. This issue with my back leaves me unable to walk. I was having a bad back day and asked the front desk if they had a wheelchair and they said no. So I was forced to walk so far to the location of the wedding rehearsal that I couldn't participate in the rehearsal because of how much pain I was in. Kimberly, the employee who was assigned to the wedding, grabbed a chair immediately and was super accommodating. She informed me that there is an ADA golf cart to assist people getting around the large property. She mentioned it's usually only available during the evening, which is ridiculous because disabled people are disabled 24/7. My husband and I realized that he could also drive right up to where I needed to be. The person I dealt with at the front desk was completely incompetent. The venue and staff I dealt with were not accommodating to my disability in the least. The wedding coordinator, who was a friend of the bride, was more accommodating than this establishment.
A unique place to eat
I met my family here as a starting point for our reunion. We had lunch at the Loading Dock Grill. No line. Service was good and so was the food. If we had more time, we would have definitely stayed longer. Lots to see and do.
Great dinner and breakfast.
Great dinner and drinks at the black rabbit and breakfast the next day. Enjoyed walking the grounds. This is a very unique venue that I would love to visit again, but next time I'll get a room and catch a concert.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.

Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
