Monte's Trattoria New York Reviews from The Last Year
Great food and very authentic
Great little trattoria - obviously packed with locals in the know. Phenomenal seafood linguine - so good we had to come back and have it again. Lovely staff, cosy and comfortable venue and prices reasonable. Loved it.
Perfect!
This is our favorite place in New York and we come every time we are in town. The Caesar Salad is the best ever, the Caprese Salad is amazing, Carbonera perfect, fettuccini with mushrooms to die for and the orecchietti worth wading through a snow storm for. The staff, including Dan and Alyssa, are wonderful and make you feel like part of the family.
Great Authentic Italian Cuisine
We were a party of 8. We had an amazing meal. The appetizers were very flavorful. We started with stuffed mushrooms, asparagus, Burrata and a hot mista. All very good. The Caesar salad also excellent. The pasta dishes were equally outstanding. This is authentic Italian cuisine ! No out there ingredients or trying too hard cuisine. Our waiter equally excellent! We will return. Loved it!
Authentic New York Italian Trattoria at its best
If you want to experience great authentic New York Italian cuisine in an informal setting this is the place to go. As for some of the negative reviews: it's clear that whoever wrote them had no idea of what a trattoria is. If you want haut cuisine in a fancy pretentious setting, with groveling waiters go someplace else. That's not what Monte's is. The food at Monte's is absolutely delicious. My wife and I and our son started off with baby artichokes oreganata, white mushrooms stuffed with vegetable puree, and eggplant rollatini. Each was terrific: (we all sampled all three), flavorful without being overpowering or drowned in sauce or oil. (My wife's term was "feather light"). Then onto the main course, three dishes with house made pasta: Cannelloni stuffed with veal, spinach, and ricotta, Fettuccini Verdi Bolognese, and Manicotti. Each was brilliant. Again, tasty, without being over-seasoned or drowned in oil. Longtime chef Mosconi has been there for long enough that he doesn't need to make a "statement". The meal was accompanied by a good Rosso di Montalcino (our waiter joked with us about the name of the producer "Paradisone") which paired well with the food, from the extensive wine list with selections at a variety of price points. For desert my wife and I ordered the Tiramisu, which we have had on previous visits and is without question the best Tiramisu we've ever had. Our son ordered Cannoli. Anybody can prepare a cannoli with a sweet and yummy filling. The trick is in the pastry. This one was not only crisp (how many soggy cannolis have we all had?) but also had its own delightful flavor. All of this for a very reasonable price. As far as the "atmosphere": again if you're looking for a trendy or pretentious setting this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a warm, authentically Italian setting surrounded by pictures of Italy and Italian celebrities who've dined here, and veteran waiters who are friendly and knowledgeable and not phony, this is the place, Yes, the tables are close together, but not obnoxiously so. The noise level is fine, we had no difficulty conversing in our normal voices. We didn't order any of the non-pasta mains, but I have no doubt they too are excellent if what we were served is any indication. Ignore the gripers! Take it from me -- I live in Long Island where there are plenty of good Italian restaurants -- this place is special. We've been there on a number of occasions over the years, and it hasn't lost anything. After you're done, you step out onto MacDougal street in the heart of the West Village feeling full and satisfied, but not stuffed. What's not to like? p.s. I am not affiliated with this place in any way -- I'm 100% "civilian".

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
