This isn't so much a complaint about this location as it is a few complaints about changes I've noticed coming down from corporate, starting with the fact that they don't answer their own 800 number for feedback, so here I am on Yelp. I used to love Panda Express and still find the food to be quite tasty. However, the first complaint I have is about the size of their styrafoam boxes that got noticeably smaller well before the pandemic hit. Yet the cost increased. Costs more for less. While I'm grateful that most employees continue to fill up the box, it's still a much smaller box. I found myself coming to Panda Express less frequently because of this, despite any cravings I may have. Well, apparently one of the things that changed during the pandemic is that they stopped offering samples. I didn't learn that until today (which for the record is the 26th of April 2023). I usually get the same items when I go until today, when I saw both the Sesame Chicken and Black Pepper Chicken. When I asked for a sample, the girl behind the counter bluntly stated they didn't have samples available and gave no further explanation. I ended up calling the location of Fletcher Parkway in El Cajon (that didn't answer their phone) and then the Santee location (which thankfully did) and learned from an employee named Jesus that this came from corporate during Covid. (Thank you, Jesus, you were the ONLY employee that was helpful today.) I decided to call the corporate office to inquire as to why they're still following this now clearly well outdated protocol. Again, we're now in the year 2023, a full three years since the pandemic first hit. I stayed on hold only for the phone to disconnect. I'm not sure what happened to Panda Express, they used to be so much better than this. I guess they got to used to taking their customer base for granted. Suggestion: Try a more locally owned Chinese food restaurant that isn't a chain. I think Lucky Chinese food only had the two locations in Santee. Substantially better service and more value for the money.
