Sorrel San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
Food pairings clashed-nothing spectacular.
Had a few add-ons. Felt like they tried to hard and missed the mark. Service friendly but erratic. Compared to many restaurants in the city not worth it. A very disappointing experience all the way around. Won't return.
The food is outstanding and the service is very good.
My only reason for not awarding five stars is the lack of non-alcoholic beverage options beyond soda and water. It's 2024, and given the plethora of non-alcoholic alternatives now available, it's disappointing that such a reputable restaurant overlooks guests who choose not to drink alcohol, a growing trend. A suggestion for management: offering even just one or two non-alcoholic options (like non-alcoholic beer or mocktails) would ensure guests don't feel limited to just water for the entire meal.

Came here for the tasting menu after seeing good reviews, but left extremely disappointed. We did the tasting menu for 2, with a few add-ons and a wine pairing; our final bill after tax and tip was about 800. The opening courses were interesting and there were a few great dishes. Towards the end though we noticed the flavor profiles felt extremely repetitive and many dishes were overly salty. The entrees were also questionable; the bass and add-on BBQ duck were extremely overcooked. The lamb was decent but wasn't anything interesting. The waitstaff was very attentive throughout the night, but dropped a used utensil on one of our coats and didn't give us any additional napkins to clean up the oil stains I think for a lower price point, Sorrel would be a good place to revisit, but we left extremely disappointed overall and feeling like we got robbed.
bad food.
soo expensive really salty risotto. I expect to have good food but food taste like normal. Cost over $300
I went to Sorrel yesterday for the second time, and it
I went to Sorrel yesterday for the second time, and it never disappoints! The atmosphere, the service, and above all, the food were just perfect. Not only is the food presented perfectly, but it also tastes even better. My favorite dishes were definitely the oysters and the passion fruit dessert, both fresh, light, tasty, and just amazing. One of my favorite restaurants: highly recommended!
Highly recommended by those who know what that means.
The location, vibe, service, and quality are exceptional
Food was good but not amazing.
For the $200 price tag, I was bit surprised by use of generally inexpensive ingredients (cabbage dish with XO sauce, dashi broth with mushrooms, etc). Dungeness crab pasta included only tiny amount of crab, and final course was a quarter filet of branzino (branzino for winter tasting menu?). Portions quite small even considering it was a tasting . Also a bit odd that a whole loaf of bread was brought halfway through the meal, with 4 types of butter. To ensure guests don't leave hungry? The highlight was the service. Very professional and never intrusive. All in all a good experience but not exactly for the food.

The food is dreamy and amazing!! Romantic ambiance, top class service! Some of the best seafood and vegetarian dishes I have tasted in a while!
This review is only for the customer service.
I spent $775 dollars in advance to reserve this restaurant for Valentine's Day and a birthday. My wife got sick 3 days in advance, but unfortunately they were closed the first two days. I tried to call and reschedule, but the person who answered the phone said there was nothing they could do and I would have to forfeit the whole amount. I was willing to eat some of the cost, but not a good look for a restaurant that is supposed to cater to the customer who is spending a lot of money and in my case not something I do except on a few special occasions. We did not go in and ended up paying for the whole thing.

This review was almost a 4-star because of the beginning of our night, but the food speaks for itself and it's truly unreal; the food alone deserves 5 stars and more. We were about 20 minutes late to our reservation and they had given our table away by the time we arrived. This honestly put a bad taste in my mouth because: 1) we called them continuously from approximately 8:12pm until 8:48 (our reservation was at 8:30 and we were stuck in heavy traffic driving through SF on Lunar New Year -- I checked my phone after dinner and I made a total of 20 calls to them between that period of time) and not one single person picked up the phone. I understand being busy, but not picking up a single call between 20-30 minutes makes no sense; 2) I've never been to any high end restaurant (or Michelin starred establishment, for that matter) that doesn't call before giving a table away; and 3) their reservation site or email doesn't say anything about grace periods (or anything helpful at all, really), which is sorta stressful. Anyways.. We made it there. Waited for a little while and got seated, so we let it go. My partner has been trying to take me to Sorrel since the before the pandemic. We've made multiple reservations but something had always come up that made us/them cancel so I've been eager to eat here for a while. We finally made it last night for an early valentines dinner and I couldn't be happier with the dining experience. We started off with the maitake potato dashi which was really good. It was so flavorful and umami, I could have eaten a whole bowl of that and been happy with my evening. Next up was the buñuelo, which was just alright. This was probably my least favorite item on the menu. I just didn't like the taste of the sweet and savory combination so I could have gone without this dish. Very pretty tho! We then received sourdough focaccia with different kinds of butter -- the bread wasn't on the menu but man was it a pleasant surprise. The honey butter was the best butter I've ever tasted in my life. I wanted to take a whole batch of that home with me. Again, if this was the only item on the menu, I'd be ecstatic. Next up: tortellini. Mine was vegetarian while my partner got the regular dungeness crab. I got mine with fresh black truffle and it was so so good! It brought a delicious, earthy flavor to an already very flavorful pasta dish but none of the flavors clashed and it delicious. What's interesting is that my first bite wasn't that good, but with each bite of the dish, it got better and better. What's great is that it was also very filling considering the other items were on the smaller side. Next we received our entrees; my partner got the branzino and I got the vegetarian option which was celeriac. I didn't know what to think of this because I had never tried celeriac before, but the chef brought it out to show me what they'd be cooking it in and it looked like an actual dinosaur egg. It was really good - granted I have nothing to compare it to but it was a good dish. Rather small compared to my partners fish, but I also don't know how much of it I'd have been able to eat if it was any larger. We then got a palette cleanser that they called a "pre-dessert." I have absolutely no clue what was in it, but I can still taste it and it tasted phenomenal. It tasted like salted caramel gelato on crushed cookies of some kind? I don't know but I'd eat 10 of them if I had the option. Last up was the actual dessert and it was truly out of this world. I've never had anything like it. The flavors melted together so well - it was so delicate and creamy, not too sweet but sweet enough to know you're eating a dessert. I truly wish we could have ordered some of it to go, that's how good it was. Afterwards, they brought us some little sweets to end the evening. I think one of them was a dark chocolate and the other was some kind of gummy? I'm forgetting because at this point I was in a food coma, but needless to say, this meal went above and beyond. The verdict is in: Sorrel is worth the hype. We will be back!
The food here is incredible and it's definitely fine dining.
We've come twice and have loved each dish every time. It does kind of seem like staff aren't very kind but maybe they can sense I'm not a millionaire. Either way, I come for the food and it's delicious. Their house bread is out of this world, Maybe you're into the "I'm high society" vibes, then it's for you!
Food, service, and atmosphere - impeccable.
Wine pairing with each dish was on point. Great place for a special occasion.
Food was delicious, and staff was very accommodating to
Food was delicious, and staff was very accommodating to dietary restrictions. However, I have to knock a star off for the entree. I ordered the fish dish, and it was very underwhelming and not the star of the show. My partner ordered the wagyu, and it was good but not great. The appetizers and snacks were much more exciting. Cannot emphasize enough how good the caviar cheesecake was!
Excellent dinner!
Very nice atmosphere. Absolutely excellent food! Fixed menu but they were able to accommodate two pescatarians.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
How to list a Nobu Malibu reservation
Hi, I have a reservation to Nobu Malibu, but since they don't do text or e-mail confirmations I haven't been able to get my reservation posted. I have posted a screen shot of the phone conversation on the listing, but it keeps getting rejected. If anyone has an idea how I can get it approved that would be much appreciated, thanks!

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
