Ynyshir Restaurant and Rooms Machynlleth Reviews from The Last Year
Sensational Food
The food is spectacular and unusually we all said even though there are lots of courses we could have eaten there again the next day...it was really that good.... Noisy, fun relaxed atmosphere - don't take anyone who doesn't like loud music. Rooms ok, pillows dreadful. Breakfast fun and quick as check out is at 10.30
2nd time visit, hope for a 3rd next year
Epic dining experience in the UK, possibly the best based on the unique environment, setup and of course curated menu from the man in front of the fire. The price and menu may put people off but that is people unwilling to try different foods. Was sat in the main room this time and just as good as the larder pass area. Music definitely mellowed since last year with a more refined dj but still pumping enough. There's no time to rest as the food comes out but stick with it. The breakfast room offering is also an upgrade from last year so hope to come next year for another go!
absolutely amazing
This is the most amazing place I have ever been. The food - out of this world. Every bite blew my mind. I cant even describe how amazing it was. The staff - knowledgeable, friendly, attentive and not pretentious. The semmelier was especially knowledgeable and had fascinating stories about the drinks and glassware and producers. The chefs - incredible service and food whilst being totally calm and working together like a well oiled machine and not a cross or stressed chef in sight. Every diner looked totally overjoyed at the whole experience, it was such an amazing place to spend the evening and so lovely to be surrounded by such happy amazed people. You mostly all faced the direction of the kitchen which was brilliant and being shown the ingredients first and moving from bar to bar to restaurant felt really unique and exciting. I loved the disco ball and smoke towards the end of the night - everyone applaused and cheered it was such a fun night. Also loved having a drink outside under the stars sat on a sheepskin by a roaring fire. The decor of the hotel is gorgeous - it felt moody and dark and beautiful. Every dish came in its own unique piece of ceramics, wood or stone like you were immersed in the welsh countryside - some of the dishes were even glazed in a glaze made from the ash of the restaurants oven - this attention to detail is evident throughout the whole hotel it truly is incredible. Everything you touch and see has been so thoughtfully considered and executed. I loved how every piece of cutlery felt different and unique and hand made and mostly didnt look like cutlery! The atmosphere was amazing, the music was fun but not too loud. Anyone who doesnt come away from this restaurant feeling like its the best thing they have ever experienced is dead inside. If i could give it more than 5 stars I would. Final nice touch - making you a coffee in your own ynyshir keep cup as you check out and giviing you a copy of the menu. Even the bill was beautiful.
Don’t bother
Totally overrated. Food was great but chef shouted at his chefs and music far too loud. Gareth is not interested in his guests. So many better more relaxing places to go. Currently in Yorkshire The Star Inn. Beats Gareth’s place hands down. Really not worth the journey
A unique experience
Whilst a meal at Ynyshir is primarily about the 30 / 31 Courses , the theatre and the atmosphere are also very important and taken together contribute to an experience that is unique in the UK . On this occasion we thought that the fish and seafood Courses were the standout. The many meat Courses lacked the variety and the subtlety of the fish. We also noticed that Thai flavours were to the fore , and were very well spiced with a healthy kick !! Like many diners we hit the wall well before the end, so didn't appreciate the desert courses as much as we probably should. The service from the staff and the chefs was exemplary. For those staying overnight, Ynyshir nolonger does breakfast. Very much a restaurant to be savoured as an occasional blast of something completely different. The cost is very high, but the quality of the ingredients justifies this to a large extent.
The best restaurant in the UK. Official
This is the best dining experience in the UK. It can only be a matter of time before this gets the 3 stars it deserves (4 if that was possible). 30 (yes 30) different dishes. Each one was amazing but some of them are standout incredible. The wagyu ‘burger’, blue fin tuna, scallops in wagyu ‘gravy’ - oh my goodness. But it’s also about the service. Mi casa, su casa. Impeccable but friendly. Right from the start they show you the ingredients for some of the dishes and it’s just so welcoming. The music throughout the evening is perfect. Slow at the start and a tumultuous party vibe at the end. Bravo Gareth Ward and all your staff. You’ve smashed this! And anyone who say’s differently is quite frankly wrong. Yes this is a remote location - but you know that when you booked!
An incredible experience from start to finish
From the moment you walk through the front door,. the welcome and the attention to detail is incredible. The cleanliness of the place, including our room which was absolutely immaculate, is 2nd to none. Gareth Ward is obviously amazing and incredible at what he does but the whole experience was enhanced by the amazing staff. Oliver looked after us with the wine and produced some excellent choices all night. Rory, Alice, Jake, Max (Moish) were amazing, serving us with knowledge and passion, but all the staff (sorry, far too many to mention) had the same professionalism and passion,! And of course, Mark the DJ totally hit the nail on the head with the music to compliment the night. Yes the food is the best I’ve ever tasted. Yes the experience was 2nd to none And Gareth and his wife are amazing at what they do but it was the whole show from start to finish. Incredible evening, wonderful food and fantastic staff, And Gareth Ward what more can I say ! An absolute genius. Thank you. We will be back one day. An absolute treasure in the middle of Wales. I really can’t say too much about this incredible experience. Memories that will last as a lifetime. Oh and our takeaway treat with a good strong coffee, served by Nicola in the morning, allowed the experience to continue even after we left the Ynyshir! Fantastic ❤️
Truly unique dining experience
The header is out of date as it now has two Michelin Stars. Fully enjoyed the experience. Stand out for me was the various cuts of Tuna all so different. Mega expensive but a real theatrical experience. Never been anywhere where there has been so much choice of Orange Wine! We stayed as well comfortable rooms. If you can afford it go as you will always remember it
Never again
I give 2 stars for the staff and location, I had been waiting for a long time to visit here and finally was able to get a room and table for hubby’s birthday, we were so exited. Positive Location is fabulous, staff were lovely and attentive. Experience and food. I was so very disappointed most of the course to us tasted very similar, the amount of raw fish started to turn on us, by the time you get to 20 we wanted to leave and really dreading another 10 to go. The so called disco was doing our heads in we couldn’t hear what the waiter was explaining what was on our plate, got fed up of asking him to repeat 🙈 for me, we couldn’t wait for it to end paid well over £550 each a waste of money could have gone for a nice holiday, breakfast had to be taken in your room, a hamper was delivered it was surprisingly nice but would have rather eaten in the house, then on top of our bill they wanted you to pay £35 each service charge and then £3 towards a charity I think I had paid more than enough money to them. Lastly don’t waste your time dressing up, we felt very awkward indeed, thought going to such a prestigious restaurant you would dress at least smart casual, I had a nice white pants with a lovely silk blouse, I felt a fool and way overdressed, most were in flip flops, crocks, old trainers, beanie hats, jogging pants some i wasn’t too sure if they had washed. I know there are raving reviews but unfortunately mine is not and believe me i so wanted this to be an amazing experience but for us it wasn’t.
